3 Ways to Entice Your Senses with Essential Oils

By Amber Lowry

Ever walk into a room that smelled pleasant and felt your mood change? Our senses, especially smell, are often underrated in many health conversations. Aromatherapy comprises various techniques used to promote healing through plant extracts and oils. One such family of therapeutic oils is essential oils. Naturally distilled from plant parts like roots and leaves, essential oils are a great way to pamper your senses and improve your overall well being. Below are some ways to use the power of essential oils to your benefit.

1. Diffuser

Using a diffuser can be an easy way to utilize benefits of aromatherapy, which include alertness, stress reduction and nausea relief depending on what oil you use. One potent diffusion technique involves using water and essential oils in a humidifier diffuser. The best part? You can enjoy the benefits from the comfort of your home, creating an aromatic atmosphere during important times for your health like right before bed. You can find an array of diffusers at reasonable prices both online and in many health food stores

2. Bath

Who doesn’t love a nice, relaxing soak in the tub? Enhancing your bath with essential oils like lavender is a great way to calm your mind while enjoying the natural moisturizing benefits provided by many botanical essences. Simply add a few drops of a relaxation inducing oil and let nature do the rest.

3. Mouthwash

Taking of swig of mouthwash for fresh breath might seem like a no-brainer, but research shows that overdoing it with certain mouthwashes, like those that contain alcohol and chlorhexidine, can also kill off good bacteria. An imbalance of bacteria in the mouth has been linked to various health issues such as high blood pressure. Though this research is controversial in nature, most conventional mouthwashes contain artificial flavors, sweeteners and colors that should be avoided anyway. For a more natural clean, combine 2 ounces of water with 3-5 drops of a freshening oil like peppermint. There are many different types of essential oils used for a variety of different purposes, so be sure to explore your options while always valuing quality above all else.
