Following college, Ridge obtained a Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) from the National Strength & Conditioning Association (NSCA). He owned a strength training facility where he coached professional and collegiate athletes, and also competed at the International World/Olympic level in freestyle wrestling for the Cyclone Wrestling Club at Iowa State University.
