Review of Mike Dolce’s “The Dolce Diet: LIVING LEAN” and “LIVING LEAN COOKBOOK”
FITNESS & EXERCISE – OCTOBER 14, 2012 BY: JAY DONELSON Examiner.comThe idea of losing weight and getting healthier makes many people think that they need to follow a particular diet plan. The Atkins diet and Sacred Heart diet are examples of diets that have been used by people in an attempt to lose weight. The typical pattern of these diets is that people start on them, lose some weight, and end up returning to their previous eating habits and gaining all of the weight back and possibly even gaining some. These diet plans are too restrictive and too hard to follow. A better approach to weight loss and healthy living is a lifestyle approach that includes a system for eating that is realistic and that people can follow for the long-term. This is where Mike Dolce and his books The Dolce Diet: Living Lean and The Dolce Diet: Living Lean Cookbook come in.
Mike Dolce is a former professional Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) fighter who appeared on Season 7 of The Ultimate Fighter television series. Dolce now works as a trainer and nutritional expert for many professional athletes like Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) fighters as well as “regular” athletes who just want to live a healthier life. He has proven to be particularly adept at helping fighters lose a lot of weight in short periods of time (known as “cutting weight”) while maintaining their energy levels in preparation for upcoming fights. Dolce’s methodology in his work focuses on having his clients live a healthy lifestyle, which includes utilizing sound nutritional and exercises practices.
What is great about Dolce’s idea is that anyone can follow it easily and at no extra expense. In fact, following Dolce’s nutritional advice may prove to be less expensive for the average person. The nutritional advice Dolce provides focuses on eating less processed foods (particularly sugary foods and drinks) and eating more foods that grow from the earth (fruits and vegetables). He does not focus on amounts like other diet plans; rather he advises his clients to eat when they hungry and to stop eating when they are not hungry any more. This is a big point, as most people eat until they are full.
The Cookbook that Dolce has prepared is really a manual for a healthier lifestyle. It includes a grocery list of foods that everyone should have in their kitchen at all times. There are recipes for meals that are simple to prepare, healthy and actually tasty. Best of all, Dolce lays out a system for eating on a daily basis that is simple and extremely effective. For example, most people start their day by drinking a cup of coffee and/or eating breakfast. One of Dolce’s tips is to start the day with a glass of water before anything else. This gets the digestive system in gear and prepares it for the day to come, like warming up a car on a cold day. A cup of coffee afterwards will go down easier and leave you less hungry. People who are hungry and/or tired tend to make poor nutritional decisions. Just these simple tips will help you lose weight and feel better and more energetic throughout the day.
Mike Dolce (@TheDolceDiet on Twitter) is very good at responding to tweets. His books can be found on in hard copy and e-book format. Both books can be found on best-seller lists. I highly recommend both books and the nutritional and lifestyle advice that Dolce offers. Do yourself a favor and check them out!
