Green tea extract plus exercise may boost metabolism
A 16-week study investigating the effects of green tea extract and exercise resulted in a reduction in body mass in mice.
Joshua Lambert, Pennsylvania State University, State College, PA, USA, and colleagues analyzed the effect of green-tea extract (GTE) in combination with voluntary exercise in mice fed a diet high in fat.
Voluntary exercise in combination with GTE reduced the final body mass by 27.1 percent and the total visceral fat mass by 36.6 percent compared to mice fed a diet high in fat without treatment.
GTE or voluntary exercise alone had less significant effects.
The study was funded by the National Institute of health.
